UK Horse Racing – Plumpton, 3rd December 2008A Round Up of the Days Jump Racing Results and News From Sussex
Plumpton staged a seven-card race meeting on Wednesday 3rd December 2008, with the first race getting underway at 12.35pm.
– 2m12:35 – Cenkos Fund Managers Novices' Hurdle Postmaster took the opening race of the day after an impressive finish from the Evan Williams trained novice. Jockey Donal Fahy rode the 5/1 winner clear with 2 furlongs remaining to take the spoils by 2 ¼ lengths. Limbo King came home in second place at 13/2, 5 lengths clear of 16/1 shot, Daring Approach. The 2/1 favourite Jeepstar finished down in fifth. 13:05 – Cenkos Securities Beginners' Chase – 2m 4f A two horse race developed in the second encounter of the day as 8/11 odds on favourite Sovereign King won by 2 ½ lengths under jockey Robert Thornton. The A King trained 6 year old took the lead with 4 furlongs remaining and pulled clear of 3/1 second favourite Phardessa. Olmeto Collonges led the remaining field home, some distance behind the front two. 13:40 – Cenkos Edinburgh Handicap Hurdle – 2m 5f The 3/1 favourite Burgess Hill was victorious in the third race of the day under the jockeyship of Robert Johnson. Petroupetrov backed at 6/1, claimed second place, 2 ¼ lengths behind the Tim Vaughan trained winner. 7/2 second favourite Jades Double finished down in eighth place. 14:10 – Cenkos Guernsey Handicap Chase – 2m 4f The fourth race of the day was claimed by 8/1 shot Hardy Boy under jockey L Heard. The A M Newton-Smith trained 8 year old ran clear of the field to beat 9/2 second favourite Keltic Moon by 3 ½ lengths. Odds on favourite Amble Forge, who was backed in to 8/15, let the supporters down, finishing in fourth place. 14:40 – Cenkos Jersey Claiming Hurdle – 2m Odds on favourite backers were in better mood for the fifth race of the day, with 10/11 favourite Albany winning by 2-lengths from 18/1 shot Santera. Trained by George Baker and ridden by A Tinkler, the 8-year old winner hit the last fence, but recovered well and was able to ease near the finish. 5/1 second favourite Rawaabet finished third; a further 2-length behind the runner up. 15:10 – Cenkos Won Cricket Again Handicap Chase – 3m 2f The longest distance race of the day again saw the favourite prevail, as Little Shilling backed at 5/4 won at a canter under the mount of R J Killoran. It was the second winner of the meet to come from the Tim Vaughan stable and by far the most impressive winner, with 17/2 shot Nagam a full 20 lengths behind. Second favourite at 4/1 Amoreigh, unseated the rider 2 furlongs from home. 15:40 – Cenkos Tokenhouse Yard Intermediate Open NH Flat Race – 2m 2f Sherwani Wolf won the final race of the day; the biggest priced winner at 25/1. The M G Rimmel trained 4 year old led from 2 furlongs out and rode clear under the guidance of jockey A Coleman. Neil Harvey claimed second place at 7/1, 3 lengths behind the winner, but 12 lengths clear of third placed 11/4 second favourite Beau Lake. 2/1 favourite Bobby On The Beat finished way down in ninth place.
