A Round Up of the Days Racing Results and News from Scotland

Scottish course Musselburgh hosted a seven-card race meeting on Monday 8th December 2008, with the first race getting underway at 12.20pm.

12:20 – Turftv Showing Best Racecourses Maiden Hurdle – 2m

Denis O’Regan rode 6/4 favourite Caravel to a straightforward victory in the opening race of the day. The J Howard Johnson trained 4-year old won by 1 ¾ lengths from 9/1 shot Divers in second place. A further 4 ½ lengths back saw Alberts Story claim third at odds of 28/1. Hi Big Spec backed into 9/2 second favourite fell after blundering at the first hurdle.

12:50 – Scottish Racing Conditional Jockey’s Handicap Chase – 3m

The Ferdy Murphy trained KalmoBay won race two from the back of the pack by ¾ of a length. Under jockey E Whillians, the 7/1 backed winner raced clear of second placed Divex backed at 11/2. Some 14 lengths further back was 11/4 favourite Stravaigin who claimed third, with 9/2 second favourite Leopold finishing in fourth.

13:20 – Turftv Showing Best Racecourses Maiden Hurdle (Div 2) – 2m

5/6 odds on favourite Red Moloney won comfortably to seal a second win of the day for jockey Denis O’Regan and trainer J Howard Johnson. 9/1 shot King In Waiting finished in second place, 5 lengths behind the winner. Geojimali claimed third place at long odds of 25/1, with 7/2 second favourite Skylancer finishing fourth.

13:50 – Scottish Racing Thistle Award Winner 2008 Novices’ Hurdle – 2m 4f

Favourite backers were celebrating again in race four of the meeting as 11/4 favourite Luna Landing won by 12 clear lengths. The Jedd O’Keefe trained 5 year old was ridden clear with three hurdles remaining under the mount of B Harding. 3/1 second favourite Night Force came home in second place, just edging out 12/1 shot Inner Voice by a neck.

14:20 – Play Poker Online at scotbet.com Handicap Hurdle – 2m 4f

Viper made sure the market leaders remained in the winning enclosure with another comfortable win, this time by 10 lengths. D R Dennis rode the 11/4 favourite clear of the field to lead by 30 lengths at one point and notch up the win for trainer R Hollinshead. 11/2 second favourite Kyberfinished second another 15 full lengths clear of third placed 6/1 shot Doris’s Gift.

14:50 – Play Bingo at ladbrokes.com Handicap – 1m

Jockey Timmy Murphy guided Festival King to an 8-length victory in the penultimate race of the day. The Miss P Robson trained winner backed at 4/1, rode clear after the last fence to leave 9/4 favourite Cyborato claim second place. Za Beau finished third at odds of 16/1, with 11/4 second favourite Smart Man finishing some distance behind the leading pack and down in sixth place.

15:20 – Watch Live On Channel 432 Standard Open NH Flat Race – 2m

The final race of the meeting brought victory for trainer J S Goldie in the shape of Hillview Boy. Backed at 8/1, the 4 year old took victory by a length under the mount of J Reveley. 5/2 second favourite Saveiroclaimed second place, 2 ½ lengths clear of 13/2 shot Vincent Pipe. Rushwee, backed in as favourite at 15/8, weakened early in the race to trail home in a disappointing ninth position.
