UK Horse Racing – Musselburgh 14th December 2008A Round Up of the Day's Racing Results and News from Scotland
Scottish course Musselburgh hosted a seven-card race meeting on Sunday 14th December 2008, with the first race getting underway at 12.25pm.
12:20 - Turftv Showing Best Racecourses Amateur Riders Handicap Chase - 2m 4f 9-ran The 11/8 favourite Divex won the opening race of the day recording a ¾ of a length victory for trainer Micky Hammond. Despite hitting the second to last fence, jockey Mr S F Magee rode the winner clear in the run in. 7/1 shot Balakar finished in second place, just edging out 3/1 second favourite Snowy into third by a nose. 12:55 - Scottish Racing Your Best Bet Maiden Hurdle - 2m 4f 13-ran Second favourite Divers produced a comfortable victory in race two of the meeting under the mount of G Lee. The well backed 10/3 winner took the lead with two hurdles remaining to win by 3 ¾ lengths for trainer Ferdy Murphy. Starbougg at odds of 13/2 claimed second place with 100/1 outsider Percutant, also from the Ferdy Murphy yard, coming home third. The 11/4 favourite Chord, finished down in fifth place. 13:25 - Rectangle Group Beginners Chase - 2m 4f 11-ran Jockey J Reveley rode 3/1 second favourite Hernando's Boy to victory in race three, securing the win by 2 ½ lengths. After making all the riding the winner pulled clear of the remaining field with three fences left to take the race easily for trainer K G Reveley. The 2/1 favourite Laborec claimed second place a further 2 ½ lengths ahead of third placed Pamak D'Airy at odds of 5/1. 13:55 - Musselburgh News Handicap Hurdle - 2m 8-ran The 7/4 favourite Joe Jo Star won race four of the day for trainer R A Fahey. The 6-year-old kept on well after clearing the last hurdle to record victory by a clear margin of three lengths under the ride of D J Condon. The 5/1 joint second favourite Sun King claimed second place, 4 ½ lengths clear of 10/1 shot Double Vodka in third. Ecole D'Art also backed as 5/1 joint second favourite came home in fifth place. 14:25 - Scottish Racing Thistle Award Winner 2008 Novices' Hurdle - 2m 8-ran The Howard J Johnson trained Doeslessthanme was an easy winner in the fifth race of the meeting, recording a victory of five lengths. The 1/3 odds on favourite blundered at the last hurdle but recovered to pull clear of the field under jockey Denis O'Regan. 5 /1 second favourite Morning Sunshine claimed second place, 17 lengths clear of Ella Woodcock in third at odds of 16/1. 14:55 - East Lothian News Handicap Chase - 2m 7-ran Joint second favourite Go Silver Bullet won the penultimate race of the day under the mount of jockey P Buchanan. The Miss Lucinda V Russell trained winner made all the running to secure victory by 2 ¼ lengths at odds of 4/1. The 3/1 favourite Majorca came home in second place, 14 lengths clear of 11/2 hopeful Or De Grugy in third. 20/1 shot Nobel was the only other runner to finish some distance down in fourth. The remainder of the field were fallers, including joint second favourite Smart Street who fell at the sixth fence. 15:25 - Horserace Betting Levy Board Standard Open NH Flat Race - 2m 9-ran The partnership of jockey Denis O'Regan and trainer Howard J Johnson registered their second success of the meeting in the final race. The 15/8 favourite Meridian City won by a comfortable 4 lengths clear of 11/1 shot Stormin Exit. A further 1 ¾ lengths back was 2/1 second favourite Prince Of Gdansk in third place.
