Doncaster racecourse hosted a seven-card race meeting on Friday 12th December 2008, with the first race getting underway at 12.00pm.

12:00 - Ecotek Standby Saver Juvenile Novices' Hurdle - 2m 110y

16-ran

A close finish to the end of the first race saw 12/1 shot West With The Wind hold on for victory to win by a head. Jockey K Mercer rode the T P Tate trained winner hard after the last hurdle to edge out Motraid at odds of 8/1. The 2/1 favourite Saticon claimed third place 1 ¼ of a length behind, with 9/4 second favourite Laterly five lengths further back in fourth.

12:35 - Kenwood Hall Hotel Sheffield Selling Hurdle - 2m 110y

11-ran

The A W Carroll trained Titfer won race two of the meeting under the mount of jockey W Hutchinson. The 14/1 shot went in front with two hurdles remaining and stayed on well to win by five lengths ahead of 11/4 second favourite Deadline. The 2/1 favourite Jane Of Arc finished a further six lengths behind claiming third place.

13:10 - Cdm (barnsley) Utility Consultants Ltd 'national Hunt'

Novices' Hurdle - 2m 3f 110y

21-ran

A large field competed in race three of the day with 8/1 shot Kangaroo Court running out an impressive winner. Under the ride of Jack Doyle, the Miss E C Lavelle trained 4 year-old led with two flights remaining and raced clear to record a comfortable winning margin of 17 lengths. Evens money favourite Honest John came home in second place, 3 ½ lengths ahead of Crop Walker at 9/1 in third. The

6/1 second favourite Smoke And Mirrors finished in a disappointing twelfth position.

13:45 - James Murphy Novices' Chase - 2m 110y

4-ran

A two-horse battle developed in the fourth race of the meeting with jockey Christian Williams riding I'msingingtheblues to victory by a length. The Paul Nicholls trained 1/2 odds on favourite made all the running and eventually drew clear of 15/8 second favourite Calgary Bay in the closing stages. The other two 66/1 outsiders Peak Seasons and Finnegans Rainbow finished third and fourth respectively, some distance behind the front two.

14:20 - Sheffield and Hallamshire Sporting Club Handicap Hurdle - 3m 110y

14-ran

The team of jockey R Walford and trainer T D Walford guided Sheriff Hutton to victory in race five of the day. The 9/2 second favourite rode clear in the closing stages to beat 18/1 shot Solway Minstrel by a length. Free World claimed third place at odds of 8/1 a further six lengths behind, with 2/1 favourite Loom finishing down in eighth place.

14:55 - Sheffield and Hallamshire Sporting Club Handicap Chase - 3m

16-ran

Stagecoach Opal won a thrilling penultimate race by a head under the mount of Mr A E Kinirons. The Mrs S J Smith trained 12/1 shot held off the challenge of 5/1 favourite Ngong Hills in the closing stages to secure a narrow victory. Antonius Caesar was 1 ¾ lengths back in third place at odds of 11/1, just beating 15/2 second favourite Categorical into fourth by ½ a length.

15:25 - Direct Valeting Ltd Novices' Handicap Hurdle - 2m 110y

17-ran

Joint 11/2 favourites Three Thieves and Spirit Of The Mist fought out the final race of the day, with the former coming out on top by 2 ½ lengths. The Jim Best trained winner kept on well in the closing stages to secure victory for jockey S E Durack. The 13/2 shot Faversham just claimed third place by a neck, ahead of Rawdon in fourth at odds of 15/2.
